Pharmacist, Retail (Healthcare)
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Ensures medications are prepared, labeled, and dispensed accurately and in a timely manner.Upon receipt of a prescription, reviews all medication orders for appropriateness, clarity, and accuracy with prescription source verification.Ensures all doses, routes, and dosing intervals are appropriate for the patients age, weight, height, and diagnosis.Serves as an advocate for patient access to drugs as well as consulting with the patient on benefits, assisting with obtaining prior authorizations, and any other way that assists the patient with accessing drugs.Ensures that appropriate patient education material is included with drugs from appropriate source such as manufacturer or other sources.Reviews all medication orders against patient profiles to identify potential adverse drug reactions. When an allergy or intolerable reaction is validated, recommends a corrective action to the prescribing physician.Manages purchases/returns/recalls and inventory of all pharmaceutical agents and medical supplies.Works closely with vendors to ensure receipt of the most cost-effective products. Maintains drug replacement and sample medication inventory separate from purchased inventory. Participates in drug study audits.Oversees Pharmacy Technicians.Conducts monthly inventory process ensuring accurate drug count and expiration date documentation.Performs quality assurance activities as assigned.Provides drug information to patients, physicians, nurses, and Team Members. Counsel patients regarding medications.Provides education and in-services for Pharmacy Technicians, nurses, and Team Members.Provides orientation and training to Pharmacy Team Members.Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervises Pharmacy Technicians.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE and REGISTRATION:
Registered pharmacist (RPh) required.Valid Arkansas Pharmacists license.Doctoral [MO1] Degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
2-4 years experience in retail pharmacy.Experience in oncology preferred.Knowledge of medical terminology.Basic math skills.Management skills.Organizational skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Knowledge of aseptic technique and USP 797 requirements.Ability and willingness to work with potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs, and cleaning solutions) and sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items.Ability to operate a computer.Ability to handle a high volume of work with acceptable speed and accuracy.Ability to stand and walk for a long period of time.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians, other departmental TeamMembers, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
