Step Into Your New Role

Kleinfelder is seeking field biologists to support with public and private sector projects, in Northern California. The individual(s) will assist on an as-needed basis for field surveys, monitoring, and technical reports. Specifically, seeking individuals located in and around San Francisco Bay Area, California. The individual(s) will largely work in remote areas in the field but will report to the nearest office as needed. The individual(s) will primarily be responsible for assisting Kleinfelder biologists with aquatic amphibian and fisheries work in support of FERC license compliance for several of PG&E's Hydroelectric Projects in Plumas, Butte, Amador, Calaveras, and El Dorado counties, along with several private sector aquatic projects in Marin and Sonoma counties. Duties will include amphibian and fish surveys and monitoring for protected species and will require travel and work in remote areas. Applicant must be in good physical condition with the ability to carry a 25 to 50 lb. backpack and endure lengthy hikes.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Performing seasonal surveys for protected species of amphibians, compliance monitoring for work crews, and written logs and reports of compliance activities.
• Perform within and endure difficult field conditions that may include lengthy hikes, rain, excessive heat, poison oak, and stinging insects.
• Interest in aquatic biology and experience handling amphibians and fish is preferred.
• Interest in and general biological knowledge of wildlife including amphibians, reptiles, bird, and mammal species.
• Reliability and ability to maintain a positive attitude and work well with other crew members a must.
• Assist with accurate data collection including amphibian species identification, sex identification, physical measurements, condition, and basic photography skills. Procedures may also include tissue or water sampling for genetic information.
• Perform seasonal surveys for fish including electrofishing, set up and break-down, and data recording. assist with operations and maintain fish passage infrastructure to mitigate possible migration barriers. Data collection of captured individuals will include species identification, length measurements, life-history stage, and sex identification.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field.
• 0 - 3 years of relevant experience
• Must have a satisfactory driving record and complete a background check
• Strong interest in or prior experience in natural resource consulting or restoration is desirable.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• 1+ years of prior experience
• Comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor environments in all types of weather
• Willing to work flexible daytime hours
• Traveling on a regular/daily basis to project location
• Effective problem-solving ability
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills/MS Office
• Experience with or willingness to learn online computer applications relevant to work
• The ability to work both independently and with a team

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Hourly range: $21.09 - 35.22.
