Radiation Safety Manager (Finance)
Position Summary: The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) ensures that radioactive materials and radiation generating equipment are used in compliance with federal and state regulations and USF policies and procedures. The RSO manages the USF radiation safety program and staff. The RSO ensures that the radiation safety program provides USF faculty, staff, students, and USF affiliates' technical support and oversight to use radioactive materials and/or radiation generating equipment in safe manner.Minimum: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline and five years of experience in radiation safety; or Master's degree and three years of experience. Work experience may not be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
Preferred: Certified health physicist; familiarization with government regulations regarding the management of radioactive materials; supervisory experience in the management of an institutional, regulatory, clinical, or private industry radiation safety program.
Required Licensure: Licensure as a Certified Health Physicist is required for this position.The University of South Florida is a high-impact global research university dedicated to student success. Grow Here .Ensure that the USF radiation safety program has proper staffing, appropriate radiation safety equipment, and access to services to support USF and affiliates research with radioactive materials and/or radiation generating equipment.
Maintain radiation safety records to ensure compliance with State of Florida or federal agencies regulations. The RSO maintains records of USF radioactive material licenses and radiation generating equipment (X-rays) registrations, radiation dosimetry, radiation surveys, audits, radioisotope inventory and leak tests, and radiation safety training.
Continually review the USF radiation safety program to ensure compliance with State of Florida statues, rules, and administrative codes.
Maintain the USF tax-free alcohol program. Order alcohol needed to support USF and affiliates research needs, maintain safe/secure storage of USF inventory, deliver tax-free alcohol to research labs as requested, and maintain tax-free alcohol records in compliance with federal regulations. Review and provide comments on IRB studies with radiation concerns.
Maintain USF Laser safety program. Develop and maintain USF laser safety procedures, conduct and document inspections of USF research labs using lasers, maintain laser safety records, and coordinate general laser safety training program.
Manage the radiation safety audit program that provides oversight and assists USF researchers using radioisotopes and/or radiation generating equipment in maintaining compliance with radiation safety procedures.
The RSO develops and maintains USF radiation safety procedures for researchers and radiation safety staff. The RSO provides training to radiation safety staff and researchers to ensure compliance with USF radiation safety procedures.
