Mgr - Transportation (Finance)
The Mgr - Transportation role manages all strategic and tactical aspects of outbound and inbound logistics and transportation in a manner that achieves optimal cost and service for products and materials. Assumes full responsibility for internal fleet P&L and manages cost and service for 3rd party carrier base.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages and optimizes all transportation modes including TL, LTL, Intermodal, Air, Ocean, Small Parcel
• Develops effective business strategy, implements and manages the associated cost reduction initiatives
• Partners with key internal stakeholders to drive collaborative efforts designed to best serve the company and our customers
• Continuously maximizes the TMS solution to leverage latest technology to drive optimization, compliance and lowest costs possible.
• Manages and directs domestic and international transportation operations, including but not limited to logistics procurement, carrier compliance, P&L and safety
• Identifies and implements improvements to internal transportation related processes in line with industry best practices
• Directs the ongoing analysis of internal fleet vs. 3rd party carrier base needs; this includes negotiating with union drivers as well as 3rd party providers to achieve the lowest delivery cost
• Manages procurement strategy and process with 3rd party carrier base.
• Develops and manages relationship with 3rd party carrier base, including contracts, performance management/metrics, compliance and safety
• Facilitates driver safety programs in compliance of DOT regulations and auditing.
• Monitors and implements internal fleet technology
• Manages internal fleet equipment strategy and the negotiation of equipment rentals, maintenance programs and contracts for trucks, trailers, etc.
• Manages 3rd party equipment maintenance and internal mechanics shop
• Manages all union relationships to insure all issues are contained and resolved in a timely manner
• Leads all union negotiations, in conjunction with MATW legal and HR teams
• Develops and utilizes KPI's, exception management, root cause identification and implements sustainable corrective actions to drive business results.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished. Mentors, coaches, trains and develops team.
• Additional duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's Degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain or related field
• Advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred
• 8+ years progressive logistics/transportation experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5+ years in a leadership role
• Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required
• High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate.
