Director of Safety (Security)
Position Summary:
Lawrence Companies is seeking an experienced and proactive Director of Safety to lead the development and execution of safety strategies across all divisions. This key leadership role partners with operational leaders, drivers, and employees to cultivate a strong safety culture rooted in our core values: Passion, Tenacity, Integrity, Courage, Humility, and Curiosity.
The ideal candidate is a results-driven safety leader with deep knowledge of transportation safety regulations, experience managing CDL operations, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Safety Leadership
Champion a company-wide safety culture aligned with core values and operational goals.Lead initiatives to reduce workplace injuries, vehicle collisions, and incidents.Collaborate with divisional leadership to align safety efforts and accountability.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations across all operations.Monitor CSA scores; ensure data accuracy and manage appeals for erroneous entries.Oversee drug and alcohol screening, hours-of-service compliance, and driver qualification standards.
Training & Development
Manage the full lifecycle of driver/employee safety training, including onboarding, ongoing development, coaching, and remedial programs.Identify training gaps through proactive risk assessments and data analysis.Mentor and develop safety team members, fostering a culture of learning and accountability.
Safety Systems & Continuous Improvement
Analyze trends and safety performance metrics to drive measurable improvements.Select and implement safety technologies and programs that improve driver behavior and reduce incidents.Lead regular facility audits to ensure safe and compliant daily operations.
Policy & Process Management
Develop and maintain company safety policies in alignment with current laws and industry best practices.Support recruiting with driver qualification standards and onboarding safety procedures.Provide leadership with data, tools, and insights to manage safety performance effectively.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in a dedicated safety leadership role within the transportation industry.Deep working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations.Experience with CDL operations is required; a valid CDL is highly desirable.Proven success in leading cross-functional safety initiatives and improving compliance metrics.Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.Proficient in safety-related technologies and data monitoring tools.Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence across departments.
Preferred Certifications:
Certified Safety Director (CSD), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Transportation Professional (CTSP)
