Staff Writer (Administrative)
General Statement: The Staff Writer supports the Fleet's mission, vision and visitor experience philosophy through the Brand Marketing Team's efforts. The Staff Writer is the organization's go-to content creator and a strong collaborator that has experience with a wide range of marketing and communications functions, including copywriting, copyediting, and media content/public relations.
Reports to: Brand Manager
Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:
1. Write, edit, or proofread all forms of content in support of organizational goals, projects, and programs for use in all types of media.
2. Create engaging and persuasive content that resonates with target audiences, leveraging strong writing and storytelling skills.
3. Collaborate with others in the organization to achieve consistent brand representation, use of key messages, and the highest standards for internal and external communications.
4. Interview subjects and manage a personal content workflow from creation through publication of a story.
5. Work with the Content Marketing Coordinator to maintain the marketing and communications production workflow.
6. Assist the Brand Manager with responding to inbound media inquiries, drafting copy for media releases, and the preparation of Fleet subject matter experts for interviews.
7. Provide copy points for and/or ensure the creation of speeches/introductions for team members such as the Chief Executive Officer.
Tools and equipment used to perform this position: Personal computer, Microsoft Office Suite, telephone, copier, scanner, shredder, paper cutter, own vehicle. project management software (such as Trello or Notion), and inter-team communication tools (such as Slack).
Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position: Performs routine duties without direct supervision. Supervision needed for training of new job duties and special projects and to discuss non-routine questions or concerns.
Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:
• Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, marketing, journalism, media studies or equivalent experience in a related field required.
• Minimum of three years of related professional work experience.
• Strong writing abilities in journalistic and informational formats and basic knowledge of Associated Press style.
• Exceptional collaboration skills.
• Strong attention to detail, as both a writer and editor/proofreader.
• A history of published content in periodicals, newspapers, web news outlets and similar publications desired.
• Excellent collaborative skills with a service mindset.
