Utility Person - Roads (Engineering)

Who you are: You enjoy working outdoors and value communicating and helping your coworkers. You bring with you previous logging or road building experience with the ability to operate equipment. The same type of experience comes from ranching or construction. Overall you are a team player, dependable, and work hard every day.
What the job is: The Utility Person is a very physical job at times. The primary duties for this position include pickup and delivery of culverts, straw, and other essential items needed for the repair and maintenance of logging roads and bridges on Green Diamond's California Timberland property. You will be delivering to project sites where operators are performing construction, repairs, and/or maintenance on off-highway logging roads. You will also be performing manual labor by helping off load the delivered items, spreading straw on roads for erosion prevention, and falling small trees as needed. This role fills in for vacation relief so being able to operate a bulldozer, excavator, and brush cutter is essential. In this role it's important to have good communication skills and be a team player. The key to being successful is working smart, efficient, and being aware of your surroundings so you are always safe.
Work schedule: An example of the schedule could look like Monday - Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Usual days off are Saturday and Sunday. During the height of the season (summer months) there will be overtime available during the week and work scheduled on a few Saturdays.
Where you'll work: The road crew musters at the office in Crannell located in Humboldt County along the northern California coast. The Crannell office is nestled in the forest where the redwoods meet the Pacific Ocean.
Compensation Details: This is a union job. The hourly rate for this job is $30.26. There is a probationary period per the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement of 60 days for new hires. During that time the pay is $28.26. The wage is just one part of the total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive an annual company financial bonus.
