Rice360 NEST BMET Programs Coordinator (Finance)
The Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies (Rice360), a multi-disciplinary institute at Rice University, is a leader in global health technology education, research, and implementation, with a distinctive focus on experiential and problem-based learning. Rice360 is a co-founding member of the Newborn Essential Solutions and Technologies (NEST360) alliance. The NEST360 alliance is working with African governments to transform hospital newborn care by installing a bundle of rugged devices, educating clinicians to use devices and biomedical engineers to maintain them, and implementing locally-owned data dashboards to drive uptake and quality. NEST360 Phase 2 focuses on scaling up collaboration with governments to develop resources and integrate evidence-based solutions into local hospitals and national policies.
Rice360 is seeking a skilled and innovative biomedical equipment technician (BMET) programs coordinator to support healthcare technology management (HTM) and BMET related activities across NEST program sites in implementing countries, under the direct supervision of the NEST BMET implementation regional director. They will provide oversight and support to NEST country programs' BME managers in executing workplans, acting as a technical advisor for BMET-related activities within the program. S/he will develop and revise NEST360 technical training materials, including technical modules, job aids, and mentorship guidelines, and support the delivery of training courses and webinars. S/he will monitor and support HTM/BMET data collection across all NEST program sites, including maintaining event logs, context trackers, and other NEST360 defined systems. The NEST BMET programs coordinator will play a pivotal role in implementing biomedical engineering solutions to enhance newborn care in Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.
The ideal candidate has at least three years' experience in project management related to HTM and BMET activities in clinical settings, as well as excellent written and oral communication and demonstrated strong coordination skills. S/he has experience working on grant-funded programs/projects within a research university environment. They also have experience working in a multi-cultural environment, a demonstrated sensitivity to low resource settings, and are passionate about applying their BMET expertise to improve neonatal care and contributing to making a lasting impact on newborn health in sub-Saharan Africa.
Workplace Requirements:
This is a full-time onsite position (M-F 8am-5pm, with occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work required to accommodate time zone differences for important meetings with teams in the US, UK, and across sub-Saharan Africa), based in Nairobi, Kenya .
Hiring Range: $45,000 - $50,000/year, contingent upon qualifications and experience
This position is funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.
