Director of Continuous Improvement (Finance)

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Director of Continuous Improvement is responsible for leading and managing the continuous improvement initiatives across the organization including multiple plants. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and productivity. The Director will work closely with various departments to identify areas for improvement, develop solutions, and ensure the successful implementation of improvement projects. This role will require up to 50 percent travel to the plants.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Strategic Planning:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive continuous improvement strategy aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
• Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and set targets for improvement.
• Process Improvement:
• Lead and manage process improvement projects using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
• Conduct thorough analysis of current processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
• Develop and implement solutions to streamline processes, reduce waste, and enhance productivity.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with department heads and other stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities and gain buy-in for initiatives.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and successes of improvement projects to senior leadership and other relevant parties.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful implementation of improvement initiatives.
• Performance Monitoring:
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of improvement initiatives.
• Use data and metrics to track progress and make data-driven decisions.
• Continuously assess and refine improvement strategies to ensure ongoing success.
• Change Management:
• Lead change management efforts to ensure smooth implementation of improvement initiatives.
• Address resistance to change and provide support to employees during transitions.
• Promote a culture of adaptability and continuous learning.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: Proven experience in a continuous improvement role, with a track record of successful project implementation.
  • Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Proficiency in data analysis and performance measurement tools.
  • Certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean certification preferred.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools.

KEY CHALLENGES

• Managing resistance to change and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in a traditional manufacturing environment across multiple locations.

WORK CONDITIONS

• Typical office environment with travel to plant locations.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
